Our field is excellent at detecting misinformation and timid about doing anything binding with the result. We built the missing half — detection that ends in a consequence — at kitchen-table scale, and kept the receipts.

We instrumented our fact-checking engine and found it searching the web in English, no matter what language the post was written in. Here is what we learned, and what we changed.
